Ruby : Is Ruby pass by reference or by value? : .dup method

word = "shiva"
temp = word
temp[temp.length-1] = "d" # or simply temp[-1] = "d" 
puts "temp is #{temp}" 
puts "word is #{word}" 

# Output: 
# temp is shivd 
# word is shivd

use dup. it copies the object

word = "shiva"
temp = word.dup
temp[temp.length-1] = "d" # or simply temp[-1] = 'd'

puts "temp is #{temp}"
puts "word is #{word}"

# Output:
# temp is shivd
# word is shiva
